Ovenly Bakery Opening
Posted by ariacarr in Just So You Know, Other on May 28, 2012
Located in Greenpoint. This bakery is awesome! I’ve been eating their cupcakes on a daily basis for over 6 months now (even though I shouldn’t be). I’ve had their cupcakes and they’re great but I would say their cookies are even better. I’ve even been their test bunny on a few things that were all exceptional. They are eager to please and provide the best service one can ask for. The bakers Erin and Agatha recently had an opening of their storefront which I attended, and it can’t get any cuter this. The space is adorable with retro/modern wallpaper and small vases of flowers on every table. The front floor to ceiling windows open up so you can have and outdoor cafe experience on a nice day. It’s 100% worth the trip. Enjoy the salted chocolate chip cookies and the carrot cake cupcakes!

Four & Twenty Blackbirds Bakery
Their list of pies is unique and confusing, where I had to ask what things meant. But just so you know, it doesn’t matter if you know what you’re getting, because they’re all great. The main automatic winner in pie making is the pie crust. You make a good pie crust and Four & Twenty Blackbirds makes a damn good pie crust. It’s flaky and soft and crunchy and tastes like butter melting in your mouth.

I understand that fresh ingredients and handmade make things more expensive, but $4.75 a slice is pushing it. I went in hoping to have 2 slices but could only afford 1. It’s so sad when you like it so much, then it’s gone in just a few minutes. So sad. I had the black bottom lemon pie. It’s a creamy lemon pie with chocolate on the bottom between the lemon and the crust. YUM. I’ve also had the Salted Caramel Apple which is just as dangerous (in a good way). Other pies on the seasonal menu include Cranberry Sage, Black bottom Oat and Salted Honey, there was another one but it sold out before I could get to it! Get there early. The line was out the door, and the tables were packed! It’s worth it, even for just one expensive slice of heaven.

Georgetown Cupcakes in NYC!
Posted by ariacarr in Just So You Know on April 1, 2012
OK! I’m not gonna lie, I was a little more than excited when I heard the Georgetown Cupcakes was opening up shop in the great city of New York! Even better it’s around the corner from my job. I had walked by the location in Georgetown DC but the line was way to long for a cupcake.
So when I heard the cupcake joint was opening on Saturday, February 11, 2012 I went directly there. Then I saw the line and decided to go right before closing on Sunday. I walked right in, there was no line which I thought was surprising. When Sprinkles opened on the Upper East Side there was a line to get in for weeks. I was also surprised because I hadn’t heard anything about a Georgetown Cupcake opening from any of the blog sites I read. But I guess it’s better for me, because everyone knows how much I hate lines.
When I got there it’s very cute and fun and flirty and slightly girly. I guess that’s what you get when you get frosting and sprinkles. They have a huge board with all the cupcakes and the prices. $2.75 a cupcake OUCH! But I’ve had more expensive.
I got a regular vanilla cake with vanilla frosting cupcake, a cheesecake cupcake and one they said that a lot of people get is the strawberry cupcake. I would have to say the frosting was extremely sweet. The sweetest I’ve ever had (since starting on my tasting every cupcake in the world endeveaor). It made my teeth hurt. The cake had a cake/muffin taste to it. It was dense but still fluffy. The best part about the strawberry cupcake was that it had actual strawberries in the cake. But other than that it was ehh. I couldn’t finish the cheesecake cupcake because I think cheesecake should only be in cheesake form. It was to bready for me.
After having my Sugar Sweet Sunshine cupcakes a few days earlier it’s hard paying $2.75 for a cupcake that makes my teeth hurt. But the customer service was exceptional and a great place to just relax and have a coffee (or a hot chocolate if you’re me). Definitely a place a tourist should visit if they’re looking for a cupcake infused place. But I still prefer the Little Cupcake Bakeshop a few blocks away.

Sarabeth’s TriBeCa
Posted by ariacarr in Just So You Know on April 1, 2012
I get a daily email from Tasting Table blog. On Friday it listed the top 10 brunch spots in the city. I’d been to the majority except for one that had all its locations included. So I thought it best to research this anomaly. Sarabeth’s.
Sarabeth’s TriBeCa was gorgeous. Very spacious and airy even though the place was packed and probably an hour-long wait. It’s more family friendly than I thought (because of the high prices). But I forgot I was in TriBeCa.
I say at the bar so I didn’t have to wait. The waiter behind the bar was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the Lemon Ricotta pancakes (14$) over the original buttermilk pancakes with strawberries. He was quick to suggest that I get the chicken apple sausage ($7) to complete the meal. I gladly obliged.
The plate arrived with 6 fluffy, perfectly round, good size pancakes with blackberries on the side. The waiter provided me with an extra helping of syrup. Let’s just say the lemon ricotta pancakes were perfect with the added bonus of how well the lemon flavor mice with the syrup. Best pancakes I ever had.
Even though it was packed, I never felt rushed and was allowed to read my book in peace. Other than the price, this is probably one of the best restaurants in the city for breakfast/brunch. It is a semi-good value with the amount of food you get. I took half of my pancakes home.

CUPCAKE ATM
Posted by ariacarr in Just So You Know on March 16, 2012
Yes, you read that correctly. Sprinkles that recently launched in NYC has stepped their game up and have created the CUPCAKE ATM!
I was on my vacation watching tv on an island in the west indies watching the Today Show with Hoda and Kathy Lee and they informed me that Sprinkles had created a cupcake ATM!
Now I heart Sprinkles cupcakes more than the next person, but I will surely miss the person to person interaction. So I will continue to wait in the 5 person deep line and listen to them repeat my order of an obscene amount of cupcakes for one.
But for all you New Yorkers who always seem to have somewhere to go in a hurry please enjoy this new mechanism of yumminess
