OK! I’m not gonna lie, I was a little more than excited when I heard the Georgetown Cupcakes was opening up shop in the great city of New York! Even better it’s around the corner from my job. I had walked by the location in Georgetown DC but the line was way to long for a cupcake.
So when I heard the cupcake joint was opening on Saturday, February 11, 2012 I went directly there. Then I saw the line and decided to go right before closing on Sunday. I walked right in, there was no line which I thought was surprising. When Sprinkles opened on the Upper East Side there was a line to get in for weeks. I was also surprised because I hadn’t heard anything about a Georgetown Cupcake opening from any of the blog sites I read. But I guess it’s better for me, because everyone knows how much I hate lines.
When I got there it’s very cute and fun and flirty and slightly girly. I guess that’s what you get when you get frosting and sprinkles. They have a huge board with all the cupcakes and the prices. $2.75 a cupcake OUCH! But I’ve had more expensive.
I got a regular vanilla cake with vanilla frosting cupcake, a cheesecake cupcake and one they said that a lot of people get is the strawberry cupcake. I would have to say the frosting was extremely sweet. The sweetest I’ve ever had (since starting on my tasting every cupcake in the world endeveaor). It made my teeth hurt. The cake had a cake/muffin taste to it. It was dense but still fluffy. The best part about the strawberry cupcake was that it had actual strawberries in the cake. But other than that it was ehh. I couldn’t finish the cheesecake cupcake because I think cheesecake should only be in cheesake form. It was to bready for me.
After having my Sugar Sweet Sunshine cupcakes a few days earlier it’s hard paying $2.75 for a cupcake that makes my teeth hurt. But the customer service was exceptional and a great place to just relax and have a coffee (or a hot chocolate if you’re me). Definitely a place a tourist should visit if they’re looking for a cupcake infused place. But I still prefer the Little Cupcake Bakeshop a few blocks away.
